The sales increase primarily reflects the continued ramp up of the Range Rover Velar, the new Land Rover Discovery and the newly launched Jaguar E-PACE, offset partially by the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport model year changeover. The 18 Model Year Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have just gone on sale, including for the first time a Plug in Hybrid Powertrain option.
Jaguar Land Rover retail sales in January were up year on year in China (16.4%) and Overseas markets (8.5%) with retail sales flat in North America but down 8.7% in Europe and 3.7% in the UK.
Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Group Sales Director, said:“The continued demand in China is encouraging however we are still facing difficulties because of challenging trading conditions in our key markets of UK and Europe.
“We are also encouraged by the fact that all-new models including the Jaguar E-PACE and 18MY Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are just entering the market.”
Jaguar retail sales were 14,066 vehicles in January, up 0.8% compared to the same month a year ago, as solid sales of the long wheel base XFL in China and the introduction of the E-PACE were partially offset by lower sales of XE and F-PACE.
Land Rover retailed 35,000 vehicles in January, up 3.7% compared to January of last year, primarily reflecting continuing strong sales of the Range Rover Velar and new Land Rover Discovery. Retail sales of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport were lower reflecting the run-out of 2017 model year vehicles ahead of the refreshed Range Rover and Range Rover Sport (including plug-in hybrid variants) which are currently launching in markets around the world, Evoque retails also down year on year.
