The Power of Engineering

PUTTING OUR PASSIONS INTO PRACTICE

At Jaguar Land Rover, our ambition is to encourage all of our employees to design solutions for the challenges our local communities and the wider world might face. From inventing safety features in our cars and solving specific mobility challenges, to recycling technology that reduces our environmental impact - we are constantly looking for innovative ways to transform the lives of others.

RIDING HIGH

Solutions to the smallest of problems often have the biggest of impacts. One problem we heard about in our local community was young Keeley Cullen.

Keeley suffers from cerebral palsy and her weekly riding lessons were not just her passion, they were part of her mobility therapy. Following an inspection at the stables where she rides, staff were told they could no longer lift Keeley onto her horse themselves and Keeley was faced with the prospect of having to stop riding.

A team of our Advanced Apprentices volunteered to design and create hi-tech steps that solved the problem young Keeley faced.

SAFE WATER SAVES LIVES

Our focus on technology and innovation has led Jaguar Land Rover to work in partnership with ClimateCare to design an activity that used smart technology to deliver Safe Water to Schools. The programme is bringing award-winning LifeStraw water purification technology to 375 schools across western Kenya – giving over 220,000 school children access to safe water at school and the chance of a better education and future.

A safe source of drinking water means families can remain healthier and can spend more time at school and work – improving their education, future prospects and incomes.

LIGHTING UP LIVES

We know that light can transform lives; it creates the extra time in the evening for children and their families to learn once darkness falls.

At Jaguar Land Rover we have worked in partnership with ClimateCare to engineer solar technology solutions to improve the lives and experiences of others. Lighting up Lives helps people to build a brighter future through the distribution of safe solar lights to over one million people across Kenya.

Each solar unit aims to deliver up to 4 hours extra light per day, generating up to 4.8 million hours of extra light to play, work and learn.

FROM WASTE TO WAVE

For almost 70 years Land Rover has transported people across the world’s toughest terrain, but it is now making its first foray into the ocean with the ‘Waste to Wave’ surfboard, created using recycled plastic derived from early clay design models. With an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic dumped in oceans every year, taking hundreds of years to decompose, Jaguar Land Rover has strengthened its commitment to achieving its zero waste goal by creating a range of surfboards made wholly from recycled plastic.
