Collaboration is key in our business. We want to work with people who share our values on human rights, ethics and environmental responsibility. We also want to support local business as much as we can.
As a global organisation we work with an increasingly wide network of suppliers in many different countries and cultures. So we always need to ask ourselves if we’re sourcing in the most sustainable way possible.
Developing sustainability standards with our supply chain
We work with specialist bodies such as the European Automotive Working Group on Supply Chain Sustainability to:
- Develop common supply chain standards across our industry.
- Share experiences with peers
- Work together on common supply chain projects
- Send joint messages to suppliers about our sustainability activities and requirements
We are also helping to develop the Achilles web based system to help the automotive industry better understand where key sustainability risks lie in their supply chain.
Supporting local businesses
In 2014/15, in line with our corporate policy we continued to support the UK economy through our procurement practices. Approximately 54% of our suppliers (by spend) are in the UK. By 2016 we expect to spend an additional £1billion with UK suppliers as a result of continued strong growth.
As we grow, this approach will also be applied to support new local markets such as those in India and China.
