At Jaguar Land Rover we are passionate about innovation. So when we hear about initiatives which employ new technology with life-changing potential, we put our support behind them.
LifeStraw water filters are a simple way to safeguard against many of the health risks from contaminated water such as diarrhoea – Kenya’s third leading cause of death as estimated by the World Health Organisation.
Our investment in the award winning LifeStraw Carbon for Water project (in partnership with ClimateCare), means that this year, over 700,000 people in the Busia region of western Kenya have access to safe water.
As well as dramatically improving the quality of daily life for hundreds of thousands of people, using this technology also has wider environmental benefits. LifeStraws reduce the need to boil dirty water, leading to less indoor air pollution from home fires and less deforestation from firewood collection. The result? A carbon saving of around 2.5 tonnes of CO2 a year for every filter used.
We’re proud to be making a tangible difference together. Access to clean drinking water is just the start of the journey to creating better opportunities for our global communities. From this comes improved health, improved environments, greater wellbeing and, for many children, even the opportunity to attend school – all leading to a more prosperous community.
We are committed to making a positive contribution to society. Through our Global Corporate Social Responsibility programme, we are Advancing Knowledge and Improving Lives with investment in health, humanitarian and environmental projects. Ultimately, our goal is to bring positive change to the lives of 12 million people worldwide by 2020.
